How should a woman over 50 wear makeup?

There is no “right way” to wear makeup as a midlife woman! I don’t subscribe to all the traditional makeup “rules” for women over 50. Fabulous makeup starts with a consistent skincare regimen, and I prefer a natural, dewy, “lit-from-within” look. My makeup routine is full of products that help me feel confident and put together.

What makeup line is best for mature skin?

As we age, midlife skin types have more wrinkles, fine lines, uneven textures, increased dryness, and decreased elasticity. I stay away from products that are drying, as they are more likely to settle into those fine lines. Just as there’s no single “right way” to wear makeup, there’s no one “right brand.” I’m sharing products from my favorite, tried-and-true brands below!

What makeup products are best for midlife women?

You don’t have to be a makeup artist to achieve a fresh, polished look! These tried-and-true products are my personal favorites—easy to use, flattering on mature skin, and perfect for enhancing your natural beauty with minimal effort.

Face Products:

Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter Foundation

I have shade “4 Medium,” which is a perfect match for my skin! It leaves a flawless finish and can be worn alone or under foundation.

Laura Mercier Translucent Powder

I’ve used this product for over 10 years. It’s not cakey and looks so soft!

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

I use shade “5.9,” and it’s a great neutral color match for me. This liquid foundation is one of my favorites I’ve ever tried. The formula goes on just like skin and is lightweight and silky. It offers light-to-medium buildable coverage. I use a stiff foundation brush for application, but you can also use a sponge or beauty blender!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Stick in the shade “Fawn”

This contour stick is user-friendly and gives the perfect bronze hint of color!

Rodial Banana Lowlighter

Not only is this highly-rated product affordable, but it is a game changer for adding brightness to the under-eye and lid areas!

Colorescience Sunforgettable Face Shield Glow SPF 50

I start my makeup off with this moisture boost to prep my skin and protect it from sun damage. It has a little tint, so you can wear it under your makeup or on its own for a glowy surge of hydration!

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Vanish Color Corrector

If you need to cover imperfections, dark spots, or hyperpigmentation, this concealer is fabulous! I have it in the shade “Fair” and love using it as a lid primer because it is so smoothing.

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 Skincare Foundation

I’ve loved this skin tint for years, and not only does it look and feel lovely, it is a clean, mineral SPF. I use the shade “Ora ST6.”

Cheeks:

NARS Blush in the shade “Orgasm”

This cult-favorite blush is a holy grail product for a reason! I love the liquid blush, blush stick, and powder

Ilia Cream Blush Stick in the shade “Tenderly”

I love how easy this is to use, and it blends seamlessly into my skin!

Eyes:

Giorgio Armani Eye Tints in shades “22M Cashew, 44S Blush, & 18M Beige”

I love using cream eyeshadows—they go on smooth, are easy to blend, and don’t look overdone. I pat these onto my lid and bring the lighter shades up under my eyebrows for a highlight. Finish with mascara and your eyes are done!

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer

Your shadows and liners will last all day long with a swipe of this tried-and-true product.

Urban Decay Liner in the shade “Smoke”

I’ve tried so many eyeliners but always come back to this one by Urban Decay because it is soft, easy to use for lining your lids or lash line, and easy to smudge.

Lips:

Sephora Rouge Gel Lip Liner in shades “Mid Day Rosé” and “The Nudest”

I love a natural, nude lip, and these lip liners are my go-to everyday lipstick. I like to finish them with a lip gloss for a shiny finish.
