These succulent French onion beef tips with mushrooms are one of my all-time favorite comfort meals!  Lipton onion soup mix is the secret ingredient!!!!

What Ingredients Are In French Onion Beef Tips With Mushrooms?

This recipe will remind you of a classic beef stroganoff but it requires far fewer ingredients and much less time! I absolutely love recipes that require minimal effort but leave you with fabulous results, and this falls into that category! To make it you need the following:

  • 1 1/2 to 2 pounds beef tips – If you like a meatier dish, use 2 lbs but 1 1/2 lbs works great too!
  • 1 envelope Lipton onion soup – This is a STAPLE in my pantry because it adds an amazing flavor to so many dishes!
  • 1 envelope beef gravy mix
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup beef bone broth or beef broth- Use what you like, but I love adding extra protein to this dish by using bone broth!
  • 1 8 oz carton mushrooms – I like to use button mushrooms or baby bella mushrooms!

How Do I Make This Dish?

The fall and winter can be such busy, jam-packed times of the year, and having nourishing, crowd-pleasing, and EASY recipes at the ready is an absolute game-changer! This is a make ahead recipe, and the total prep time is less than 15 minutes! To start, place your beef tips in a large gallon Ziploc bag. Add your Lipton soup mix and your gravy mix, and shake this all together until the beef tips are coated. Leave your Ziplock bag in the refrigerator overnight, so the meat can soak up all the flavor. If you’d like, you can also wash your mushrooms the night before to have those prepped and ready! The next day, put your beef tips and mushrooms in a slow cooker. In a separate bowl, stir together your bone broth and cream of mushroom soup. Pour this over the beef tips, and cook it on low under the beef tips are tender, about 4-6 hours. Enjoy!

Is This A Weeknight-Friendly Meal?

This is ABSOLUTELY a weeknight-friendly meal! It is also a great dinner to serve to picky eaters, guests, or to make for a sick friend. It is cozy, rich, EASY, and oh-so flavorful! These beef tips with mushrooms deserve a permanent spot on your fall and winter weeknight dinner rotation!

Are Beef Tips Tough?

Beef tips or “steak tips” can get a bad wrap for being one of the tougher cuts of meat, but if you make them properly they can be tender and delicious! They are the bite-sized pieces that are usually cut from the tip of beef tenderloin, but they can also be cut from sirloin steak or chuck roast. As long as you cook them “low and slow,” they are delicious stew meat in vegetable soups, beef stews, and this delicious recipe!

What’s The “Secret Ingredient” In This Dish?

There are a few key ingredients that set this dish apart from other similar recipes, but the star of the show is the Lipton onion soup mix! I always have a few packets of this in my pantry to use as a flavorful dry rub, marinade, or seasoning. It packs a flavor “punch” and you don’t have to worry about using extra seasonings like salt, pepper, or garlic powder! The Lipton soup mix combined with the gravy mix and cream of mushroom soup results it a rich, buttery mushroom gravy that tastes just like one you would make on the stove top!

How Should I Store The Leftover Beef Tips With Mushrooms?

If you are lucky enough to have leftover beef tips with mushrooms, these make fabulous leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day! Store them in an airtight container and keep them in the refrigerator for a few days. When you’re ready to reheat, you can microwave your portion or put it in a large skillet of pan over medium to medium-high heat. I like to stir in a few more tablespoons of broth to keep the dish moist and delicious!

How Should I Serve This Dish:

This dish is traditionally served over egg noodles or rice, but it is also FAB over mashed potatoes. I also love to top it off with a little fresh Parmesan and cracked black pepper! I like to serve “Shake Ahead” Beef Tips with Mushrooms alongside a salad like my Easy Peasy Baby Bleu Salad or a vegetable like my Green Beans with Shallots or Roasted Carrots.
